With the writer’s strike entering its second week, a bunch of productions are now temporarily pausing or outright shutting down amidst the ongoing industrial action.
Marvel and Disney’s high-profile “Daredevil: Born Again” revival series marks the latest New York-based TV series to be impacted with production halting for today with no filming done according to Deadline.
Production however is slated to continue tomorrow with the series two months into an eight-month shoot for its eighteen-episode new season for the Disney+ service. The show’s writers and executive producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord reportedly cannot be on set.
More dramatic is Apple TV+ series “Severance”. The critically acclaimed psychological thriller series is in the middle of shooting its second season and has already been the subject of behind-the-scenes headlines.
Now, it reportedly joins Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” Max’s “Hacks” and Showtime’s “Billions” as a series fully shutting down production until the writer’s strike ends.
Also joining them is “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight,” the new “Game of Thrones” spin-off series which is in development.
In a lengthy Not A Blog post, author George R.R. Martin expressed his full-throated support for the WGA strike and says the show’s writer’s room has closed for the duration with the showrunner and young writers on the picket lines.
The second season of “House of the Dragon,” which began filming on April 11th, is still going ahead, however, as the scripts for the second season were fully completed months ago with no further revisions required.
Another show that is continuing production is the second season of “Andor”, slated to continue shooting through until August.
Showrunner Tony Gilroy confirms (via Slashfilm) he finished all his writing duties on the second season were completed several days prior to the strike’s commencement. He is now working off-set in his capacity as a producer only.
Finally, Neil Gaiman reportedly says (via Tumblr) that new episodes of Netflix’s “The Sandman” series could possibly be delayed due to the WGA strike saying: “Whether or not any of Sandman is delayed depends on how long the strike goes. And there won’t be scab scripts on Sandman.”
