The first part of the final season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” set new records for the streamer.
In its first five days, the partial season run achieved 59.6 million views. That’s the best premiere-week viewership an English-language Netflix series has ever achieved.
It’s also the third-best overall, coming behind only the second and third seasons of the Korean series global sensation “Squid Game”.
That’s a massive increase on the fourth season, which debuted to 22 million views in 2022 – though that tally was only counted over three days, not five.
The series set another record last week, as rewatches of the previous seasons saw all four of them re-entering the Netflix Top 10 – the first time any series has had four different seasons on the chart. All five seasons are in there for the week of November 24th-30th.
The fourth season of the series remains on Netflix’s list of its most popular English-language TV titles of all time, with 140.7 million views in its first 91 days. Season 5 is expected to easily eclipse that.
The next three episodes of the season air Christmas Day while the finale, which clocks in at 125 minutes, will release New Year’s Eve on both the service and in select cinemas.
