The third and final season of “Star Trek: Picard” changed surprised many by becoming one of the most acclaimed TV runs of the year so far.
In doing so, it offered a well-received ending for the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” crew – something that “Star Trek: Nemesis” failed to provide.
Since it ended, much of the chatter around it has been about a sequel spin-off dubbed “Star Trek: Legacy” focusing on the younger Enterprise-G crew.
Back in June though, Jean-Luc Picard himself – actor Patrick Stewart – indicated he isn’t ready to say goodbye to his role just yet and suggested he had a movie left in him.
The 83-year-old thesp recently published a memoir of his life titled “Making It So” where he re-iterated this desire to continue saying. In the book, from an excerpt printed by Slashfilm, he says:
“I am gently pushing Paramount to let us do one single ‘Picard’ movie. Not a ‘Next Generation’ movie, as we have already done four of those. This would be an expansion and deepening of the universe as we’ve seen it in ‘Star Trek: Picard.’ I’ve discussed this with Jonathan [Frakes], Brent [Spiner], and LeVar [Burton], and they are all game. Jonathan is my first choice to direct it.”
The comments come as the “Star Trek” franchise seems to be cutting back rather than expanding its footprint in the way it has been doing in recent years. All three seasons of “Star Trek: Picard” are now on Blu-ray with a Picard-themed mega-boxset arriving in November.
