This release of the dark comedy “The Menu” has scored solid reviews and looks set to perform decently at the box-office this weekend in its debut.
Though Ralph Fiennes, Nic Hoult and Anya Taylor-Joy have the main roles, one of the film’s supporting players is John Leguizamo, who plays Georgie Diaz – an action star past his prime.
Speaking with EW recently, Leguizamo says to get into the mindset of his character, he channelled one of his former co-stars – Steven Seagal:
“I’ve met lots of these stars like that, maybe before they were washed up. I mean, now they’re washed up. I kind of based mine on Steven Seagal. I had a bad run-in with him. We did a movie together. It was ‘Executive Decision’. He’s kind of a horrible human.”
The pair co-starred with Kurt Russell, Halle Berry and David Suchet in 1996’s “Executive Decision”, which involves an aeroplane hijack. Though the film is generally liked, the role earned Seagal a Razzie Award nomination, with the actor losing to Marlon Brando for “The Island of Dr. Moreau”.
“The Menu” revolves around a couple that travels to a coastal island to eat at an exclusive restaurant where the chef has prepared a lavish menu with some shocking surprises.
