Steven Knight To Pen Next “Star Wars” Film

BBC

“Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight is set to take over screenplay writing duties on the untitled “Star Wars” movie that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is attached to direct.

Knight takes over from original screenwriters Damon Lindelof (“Watchmen”) and Justin Britt-Gibson (“Counterpart”) who have departed the project which is widely expected to be the first new “Star Wars” film to hit screens following the release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019.

Knight is a veteran screenwriter who has penned all sorts of films over the years including “Eastern Promises,” “Locke,” “Allied,” “Spencer,” “Serenity,” “The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” “Seventh Son” and more. On TV he’s the creator and writer of “Taboo,” “See,” “SAS: Rogue Heroes,” and ‘Peaky’.

Lindelof and Britt-Gibson were hired a while back to write a script and turned in a draft this year before exiting in February. News of their exit hit more recently and in the wake of reports that several other “Star Wars” projects in the works with Patty Jenkins, J.D. Dillard and Kevin Feige have been shelved.

Aside from this one, potential “Star Wars” films from Taika Waititi and Shawn Levy see to be about the only ones still active. More information about this new “Star Wars” film, including a title, is expected to be announced at the Star Wars Celebration in London in April.
