Amandla Stenberg (“The Hate U Give,” “Dear Evan Hansen,” “The Hunger Games”) is in talks to join the new “Star Wars” live-action series “The Acolyte” on the Disney+ service.

Disney and Lucasfilm previously confirmed that the series is set in the final days of the High Republic, approximately fifty years prior to the events of “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace”.

The story is also expected to deal with the emergence of dark side powers that ultimately led to the Clone Wars decades later. Leslye Headland serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner and production is slated to begin mid-2022.

This will mark the sixth live-action “Star Wars” series on the way following in the wake of two aired seasons of “The Mandalorian” (with a third on the way), “The Book of Boba Fett” later this month, the finished filming “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and “Andor” series expected to air next year, and the soon to begin production “Ahsoka” series.

A seventh series, “Lando,” is still in early development while an eighth, “Rangers of the New Republic,” is believed to have been scrapped.
