“Stargirl” Series Casts Its Injustice Society

Joy Osmanski (“Santa Clarita Diet”), Neil Hopkins (“Lost”) and Nelson Lee (“Blade: The Series”) are set to play Tigress, Sportsmaster and Dragon King respectively in the upcoming live-action series “Stargirl” for the DC Universe streaming service.

The trio of characters are members of The Injustice Society, a collective of master criminals dating back to 1947 in the comics. They serve as the underworld counterpoint to DC’s first superhero team – The Justice Society of America.

The show’s story follows high school teenager Courtney Whitmore whose seemingly perfect life hits a major speed bump when she’s moved to Nebraska. Struggling to adapt to a new school, make new friends and deal with a new step-family, Courtney discovers her step-father has a secret – he used to be the sidekick to a superhero with a cosmic staff which she borrows and becomes the unlikely inspiration for an entirely new generation of superheroes.

The actors join a quickly growing cast which includes Brec Bessinger, Anjelika Washington, Joel McHale, Henry Thomas and Giancarlo Esposito. Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter and Melissa Carter are executive producers and Johns is writing the first episode as well.
