“Stargate,” “Robocop,” “Blonde” Get Reboots

MGM

A year after closing their acquisition of MGM for $8.5 billion, Amazon Studios is now ready to move forward on film and/or TV development on multiple franchises from the MGM library.

Deadline reports that around a dozen initial titles for film and/or TV development are in play with the company reaching out to A-list creative talent to potentially enlist, along with steering some of their own talent towards properties.

Each title is said to be getting a different approach – some getting new films, some new TV series, and the biggest will be getting both. The three biggest are “Stargate,” “Robocop” and “Legally Blonde” with all three getting both film and TV treatment.

The outlet indicates a new “Stargate” movie will likely come first ahead of a TV series, a new “Robocop” TV series will come first ahead of a movie, and “Legally Blonde” will have both a new film and/or show developed simultaneously. It’s not clear if the latter is getting a full reboot or the long-awaited third entry.

Active development is also underway on new TV shows based on “Fame,” “Barbershop” and “The Magnificent Seven”. On the film front, new “The Pink Panther,” “Poltergeist” and “The Thomas Crown Affair” films are also in the works.

They would join the already revealed plans for a “Creed” universe spanning film and TV, and a recent deal with Sylvester Stallone which could see the Rocky brand come to television.

Whilst there is an unscripted competition based on the James Bond franchise still in the works, the are currently no plans for any other James Bond series in the works.
