Bethesda Game Studios has revealed a ton of new information along with gameplay clips and immersive trailers from the highly anticipated “Starfield,” releasing on September 6th.
The game marks the first new universe in over 25 years from “Fallout” and “Elder Scrolls” developers Bethesda Game Studios. The next-generation role-playing game is set amongst the stars, which you can “explore with unparalleled freedom as you embark on an epic journey to answer humanity’s greatest mystery.”
The over hour-long presentation promises over 1000 planets to explore along with plenty of options for character creation, shipbuilding, base building, exploration, weapons, space combat and galaxy simulation. The makers recorded over 250,000 lines of dialogue.
Bethesda’s Todd Howard has confirmed to IGN the game will run at a locked 30 frames per second on both Xbox Series X and S – no 60fps option. The title will run at full 4K resolution on the Xbox Series X and 1440p on the Xbox Series S.
Howard says the reason for the lock is to ensure ‘consistency’ of performance:
“I think it’ll come as no surprise, given our previous games, what we go for. Always these huge, open worlds, fully dynamic, hyper detail where anything can happen. And we do want to do that. It’s 4K in the X. It’s 1440 on the S. We do lock it at 30, because we want that fidelity, we want all that stuff. We don’t want to sacrifice any of it.
Fortunately in this one, we’ve got it running great. It’s often running way above that. Sometimes it’s 60. But on the consoles, we do lock it because we prefer the consistency, where you’re not even thinking about it.
And we don’t ever want to sacrifice that experience that makes our games feel really, really special. So it feels great. We’re really happy with how it feels even in the heat of battle. And we need that headroom because in our games, really anything can happen.”
Check out the 3.5-minute story trailer below, along with the hour-long direct presentation, which goes into much more detail. A Starfield-themed Xbox controller and a watch that comes with the game’s ‘Constellation Edition’ will also be released.
“Starfield” arrives on PC, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on September 6th. The title will be available Day 1 on GamePass.
