“Star Wars” Scribe Wants Special Presentations

“Solo: A Star Wars Story” and “Willow” sequel series co-writer Jonathan Kasdan is reportedly pushing for the “Star Wars” franchise to adopt a ‘Special Presentation’ format similar to what Marvel Studios has done this year.

With both “Werewolf by Night” and “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special,” Marvel delivered one-off TV specials that are essentially standalone stories within larger franchises telling smaller scale stories than the films.

Kasdan argues that extended, one-off TV series would be a great fit for “Star Wars,” and in particular for the cast of characters from “Solo”. He tells THR:

“I’m always afraid to ask [Lucasfilm President] Kathy [Kennedy] because she can see right through me. She can see my desire to tell more stories there.

But in recent months, I have been intrigued by the wonderful [Marvel Studios Special Presentation] Werewolf by Night as a potential form of storytelling.

So I would love to see Lucasfilm embrace a short-form novella version for telling some of their stories. That certainly seems like a place where future stories about those characters could live.”

Kasdan also reveals in the interview that if given a chance, he would retcon Qi’ra’s high-profile role in the coaxium heist in “Solo” as it was at odds with the Crimson Dawn’s syndicate efforts to stay hidden.
