Paramount+ has released a new trailer for the second season of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” this one showing off what’s to come on the season ahead following last week’s season premiere.
There’s more of Jack Quaid as Ensign Brad Boimler in the crossover episode with “Star Trek: Lower Decks,” glimpses of the court-martial of Number One, the return of the Gorn Hegemony, a scene with Lt. James T. Kirk and Ensign Uhura talking about death, and a shot with Spock having somehow become human.
The season premiere was notably absent the show’s leading man Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) who was off on a solo mission to find a lawyer to represent Number One – leaving him only two very brief scenes in the episode.
The episode’s director Chris Fisher revealed on The 7th Rule podcast that Mount had to bow out of appearing in the premiere because his partner had just had a baby and needed to spend time with his kid.
Captain Pike will be back in force in the second episode “Ad Astra Per Asprera” airing on Thursday June 22nd – the episode focusing on the court martial. Other notable episodes this year include the seventh which deals with the ‘Lower Decks’ crossover, and the ninth which numerous cast members have dubbed their clear favorite of the season.
The second season of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” will wrap on August 17th.
