CBS All Access has announced an October 15th premiere date for the third season of their big budget sci-fi series “Star Trek: Discovery”. The date means the new episodes arrive a full eighteen months after the second season finale in April last year.
The new season will see the crew having jumped 930 years into their future, taking us well beyond the mid-2200s of the first two seasons and well past the late 2300s of the Next Generation/Picard era to the complete unknown that is 3187 – well past anything in previous Trek lore and far enough out to allow for a complete reshaping of the galactic map.
Previously Jonathan Frakes, who is directing multiple episodes of the new season, says the new season marks a big tonal shift and will be lighter and more action oriented than the darker themes of the previous seasons.
David Ajala joins the cast for the new season which wrapped filming back in February just weeks before the pandemic shutdown. Post-production on the third season has been continuing remotely.
