The other day came the news that Brendan Fraser had signed on to star as the villain in “Batgirl” with the reports at the time suggesting he would be playing the Batman villain Firefly.
Today though, THR’s Borys Kit has an update indicating the reports were incomplete. Fraser is playing the villain in the film, but a role as Firefly may not be accurate – instead, he would be playing Gotham’s mob kingpin Carmine Falcone.
It’s also indicated that Sylvester Stallone was approached for the role and turned it down before the filmmakers went to Fraser.
Fraser marks the fourth actor to have taken on the Falcone role in live-action following Tom Wilkinson in “Batman Begins,” John Doman in FOX’s “Gotham,” and John Turturro in the upcoming “The Batman” film.
Leslie Grace will star as the title character in the film which will be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.
