“John Wick” helmer Chad Stahelski has been set to direct “Ghost of Tsushima,” a film adaptation of the celebrated feudal Japan-set Playstation-exclusive video game which has been setup at Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions.
The story unfolds during the first Mongol invasion in 1274 and follows protagonist Jin Sakai, one of the last remaining samurai warriors, who becomes a stealthy guerrilla fighter in order to ward off the brutal enemies – earning the nickname ‘The Ghost’.
“Infamous” game developer Sucker Punch released the title on PlayStation 4 mid-last year where it received high acclaim from critics and fans and was a major contender on many of last year’s ‘Game of the Year’ lists.
Stahelski, Alex Young and Jason Spitz are producing the film through 87ElevenEntertainment, while Sucker Punch Productions will serve as executive producers.
The project marks the second film to come out of the partnership between Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, the first being the already shot “Uncharted” film which opens on February 11th 2022. The companies also have a TV series adaptation of “The Last of Us” in the works for HBO.
Stahelski will be shooting “John Wick 4” next and remains in development of a “Highlander” reboot.
