“Squid Game” Director Sets His Next Film

Squid Game Could Get A Third Season
Netflix

Filmmaker Hwang Dong-hyuk, who created and directed every episode of Netflix’s South Korean mega-sensation “Squid Game,” has set up the new feature film project “Killing Old People Club”.

Speaking during a session at MipTV alongside producer Jun Young Jang, Dong-hyuk revealed he has already penned a 25-page treatment for a film adaptation of a novel by famed Italian intellectual and “The Name of the Rose” author Umberto Eco.

Dong-hyuk promises that the project, which has adopted the working title of “K.O. Club,” will be more violent than “Squid Game” and says he may have to hide from the elderly after the film comes out.

Dong-hyuk will shortly be returning home to South Korea to write the second season of “Squid Game” which aims to be out on Netflix by the end of 2024.

He also says the best compliment he got about ‘Squid’ came from an idol of his – none other than filmmaker Steven Spielberg who revealed he had binge-watched the series in three days and told Dong-hyuk “now I want to steal your brain.”
