“Springsteen” Film Could Get A Sequel

“Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” director Scott Cooper says that he and legendary musician Bruce Springsteen have already discussed a potential sequel.

In an interview at the recent AFI Fest (via Variety), Cooper says the possibility of making more Bruce Springsteen movies is strong and that many moments in the musician’s life could receive a ‘cinematic treatment’:

“I suppose if you can make four Beatles movies, you can make a couple of Bruce Springsteen movies. There are so many chapters in Bruce’s life, in all seriousness, that are quite right for cinematic treatment. That’s something, quite honestly, that Bruce and I have discussed. I think he really loves this film. He’s loved the experience.”

Biopic franchises aren’t something you see very often. Jeremy Allen White stars as Springsteen in the film, which chronicles the making of 1982’s Nebraska album when he was a young musician on the cusp of global superstardom and struggling to reconcile the pressures of success with the ghosts of his past.

The acoustic record, his sixth album, is considered one of his rawest and most acclaimed works, but it doesn’t have the giant hits that something like his subsequent album “Born in the USA” had.

“Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” is on track for a $11-12 million opening this weekend, which is decent but not a real franchise starter. The film landed a so-so ‘B+’ CinemaScore with audiences.
