The Southern-accented thrill-seeking squirrel scientist character of Sandra ‘Sandy’ Cheeks from the long-running “SpongeBob Squarepants” animated series is getting her own movie.
Collider reports that the hybrid spin-off feature will put the animated character in a live-action setting with Liza Johnson (“Elvis & Nixon”) set to direct the project for Nickelodeon.
The project is reportedly being made for an undisclosed streaming service, and not necessarily the obvious home that is the Paramount+ service.
Longtime writer Kaz co-wrote the script with Tom J. Stern and filming is expected to start in August in New Mexico.
