“Splinter Cell” Remake Seeks Scriptwriter

Ubisoft

The upcoming remake of the iconic Tom Clancy-inspired stealth action video game “Splinter Cell” is set to not only update the game’s graphics, but to make some adjustments to its narrative elements.

PSU reports that developer Ubisoft Toronto is currently trying to recruit a screenwriter to update the original game’s story “for a modern-day audience”.

First released in 2002 as an Xbox exclusive, the remake was announced late last year with the game being rebuilt within the Snowdrop engine, which is used to power Ubisoft titles like “Tom Clancy’s The Division”.

The original game’s story centers around protagonist Sam Fisher, a black ops agent for the NSA’s secret Third Echelon division. His undercover work sees him tasked with helping maintain world order as cyber terrorism and international tensions threaten to begin a new World War.

The job listing says they “want to keep the spirit and themes of the original game while exploring our characters and the world to make them more authentic and believable.” This will mark the first mainline “Splinter Cell” game in a decade, and remains still in the early stages of development.

The long-in-the-works film adaptation of the property, which has had Tom Hardy linked to star for at least a decade, has not seen any movement in recent times.
