Spike Lee Releases His Jackie Robinson Script

Filmmaker Spike Lee has taken to social media to provide some entertainment for those stuck in self-isolation during the coronavirus pandemic.

Lee has shared his script for an unproduced biopic about the legendary baseball player Jackie Robinson, a project that dates back more than two decades.

Lee calls it “one of my dream projects” and that he he wanted Denzel Washington to play Jackie, but “Denzel said he was too old”. So, Lee has pulled this script out of the vault – the fifth draft to be precise that was written in 1996 – to share with the masses.

You can read the script by clicking here. Filmmaker Brian Helgeland ultimately did a Robinson biopic in 2013 titled “42” which starred Chadwick Boseman.

Hopefully this also means more filmmakers might come forward with their scripts for projects stuck in development for many years.
