Spielberg’s Amblin Sets Film Deal With Netflix

Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners has signed a partnership with Netflix. For Amblin, who previously worked with Netflix on “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” the deal is seen as a way to increase its film slate and has no restrictions regarding budget or genre.

Amblin will produce multiple films for the streamer each year in a deal separate from their long-standing output with Universal Pictures which involves theatrical releases.

In a statement, Spielberg himself says: “This new avenue for our films, alongside the stories we continue to tell with our longtime family at Universal and our other partners, will be incredibly fulfilling for me personally since we get to embark on it together.”

Amblin has several movies either finishing up or about to start. Spielberg himself will soon shoot a semi-autobiographical feature starring Paul Dano, Seth Rogen and Michelle Williams this summer. Later this year his musical “West Side Story” will be released.

Other Amblin films include the comedy “Easter Sunday” which is wrapping up, the dramedy “The Good House” which reunites “Dave” stars Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver, the Anthony Ramos and Naomie Scott-led sci-fi film “Distant,” and the long in the works horror feature “Last Voyage of the Demeter” which will shoot this summer in Europe.
