Spielberg Won’t Retire, Shows New Film Clips

Disney Pictures

A new screening room named after legendary director Steven Spielberg has just been opened on the Universal Pictures lot, and with it came an event celebrating the dedication, and the man himself showed up to celebrate.

Variety reports that the first footage from his currently in post-production untitled new feature was shown at the event. Many have dubbed it a ‘UFO’ film, but the trade indicates the footage didn’t confirm an alien theme.

The brief footage shown saw unmarked black cars chasing Emily Blunt as a “everywoman in a rural area”. She and Josh O’Connor team up with the pair on the run in her busted sedan.

Said car collides with a speeding train with the pair trying to escape through the broken windshield as the car gets chewed under the front of the train. Colin Firth reportedly seems to be the villain, dressed in a suit and running an underground control room.

Wyatt Russell, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo and Noah Robbins co-star in the film which marks Spielberg’s return to blockbuster filmmaking. It is expected out next Summer.

The screening room itself reportedly sports 250 green velvet chairs, and is capable of Dolby Vision 4K and Laser 4k, Dolby Atmos sound and projection for both 35mm and 70mm film.

Spielberg also took the time to spell out his future and it seems, much like Ridley Scott and Martin Scorsese, the master filmaker will keep directing until he can’t: “I’m making a lot of movies and I have no plans … ever … to retire.” He also alluded to tackling one genre he has yet to do – the western.

The dedication follows just days after Spielberg’s “Jaws” celebrated its 50th anniversary.
