There were reports of it last week, but the other day Paramount Pictures made it official – a deal was made with Activision which will see the release of a major live-action movie based on the “Call of Duty” gaming franchise.
Now, Puck News reports that Paramount beat out the likes of Universal Pictures and Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Entertainment for the project. In fact, Amblin’s pitch was that Spielberg himself was reportedly going to direct the film as he’s a big gamer and big “Call of Duty” fan reportedly.
However that would require Activision agreeing to the ‘famous Spielberg deal’ which would mean Spielberg would not only get huge paydays but also final cut, and full control over production and marketing.
According to the outlet, that was a deal breaker for Activision. Instead, the company chose to partner with Paramount which would give Activision more control over the project’s creative process.
No director or cast is currently attached to the project. A previous attempt at a film adaptation in 2015 never got off the drawing board. That version was to star Tom Hardy and Chris Pine with Stefano Sollima directing.
The first-person shooter military video game franchise launched in 2003 and has become one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, with over 500 million copies sold globally.
