“Spider-Verse” Producers Tease Spot Menace

Sony Pictures

Currently out promoting this week’s “Project Hail Mary,” filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller offered an update on the upcoming “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” which they produce.

Speaking with Variety, they confirm the film is still on track for a June 2027 release with Miller adding that it is “the most emotional of the three” films to date. Lord adds “It’s on schedule, and it’s going to be beautiful and emotional.”

He also teased that the villain The Spot, who was last seen arriving back in Miles’ universe determined to kill Miles’ father Jefferson Davis and make Miles suffer, will get an intense art style: “there’s some new things that are developing for the look of what Spot does specifically that are… actually going to be great.”

Lord then chimes in about Spot, saying: “it’s going to take you to the places of abstraction that I think are really… going to be great.”

Jason Schwartzman will return to reprise the role of The Spot alongside Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, Karan Soni as Pavitr Prabhakar, Daniel Kaluuya as Hobie Brown and Nicolas Cage as Spider-Noir.

Marvin Jones III, Greta Lee and Jharrel Jerome also star in the film which will release on June 18th 2027.
