Sony Pictures has shaken up its theatrical release calendar, locking in several key release dates and delaying others.
First up the highly anticipated “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” the sequel to 2018’s acclaimed “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and the first part of a two-part film, has been pushed back eight months.
Originally slated for October 7th this year, the film has now been pushed to June 2nd 2023. It has also dropped the ‘Part One’ from its title, while the second part “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part II” has been set for a March 29th 2024 release.
That’s not all though. A third entry in the Denzel Washington-led and Antoine Fuqua-directed “The Equalizer” franchise is in the works with a new entry slated for September 1st 2023. This would follow on from the 2014 and 2018 first two films based on the iconic 1980s TV series.
Then there’s “Madame Web,” another entry in the studio’s Marvel efforts. It has slated a July 7th 2023 release and will follow in the wake of the recent “Morbius” movie and the “Kraven the Hunter” film in January next year.
Next, the live-action/CGI musical adaptation of the kids book series “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” has taken over the old ‘Spider-Verse’ slot of October 7th this year, bumped up several weeks from November 18th.
Finally the Korean War epic “Devotion,” based on the bestselling book of the same name, has been dated for a limited release beginning on October 14th.
