“Spider-Man: Miles Morales” Will Do 4K & 60fps

A few weeks back Digital Foundry reported that 30fps was a performance target for the majority of Sony’s initial PS5 first-party offerings like “Horizon Forbidden West,” “Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart” and “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales”.

At the time, they said: “Sony kicked off its PS5 reveal with a short teaser for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales – and the evidence suggests that developer Insomniac is sticking with the 30fps performance of the original game, even though the horsepower exists to double frame-rate to 60fps.”

Now, Insomniac Games has tweeted that “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales” at least will be running at 4K resolution and at 60fps in ‘performance mode’. Effectively it sounds as though the console will do what the PS4 Pro does in offering gamers a choice between higher resolution at lower frame rates, or the other way around.

As Digital Foundry explains, the difference will likely come down to not a case of resolution difference but rather additional effects – with Spidey it’ll possibly be 4K/30fps with ray tracing or 4K/60fps without or minimal ray tracing. Others will use it in different ways with Codemasters’ “DIRT 5” said to be offering a ‘performance mode’ with a choice of 120fps.
