“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” Does POV Shots

Sony Pictures

Several social media influencers recently attended a Sony event in which they spoke with some of the creators involved in the studio’s upcoming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” release.

YouTuber DoomBlazer has shared some details about what was revealed, the most interesting stuff tied to director Destin Daniel Cretton taking a quite different approach to how the film is being shot.

As we’ve already seen across various featurettes, they’re aiming for a more grounded approach here with different approaches to costumes and visuals. That will include the film’s depiction of Peter Parker’s Spider-Sense which will play a much more prominent role here:

“When he wears the mask, you can still see his eyes, and there are a lot of cool camera shots where it just focuses on his eyes under the mask. And the Spider-Sense will have its own unique sound. The goal was to make audiences hear it, feel it, and experience it alongside Peter.”

That’s not all though, as Cretton is going to offer some different angles than you usually see in these films:

“We are also going to be getting POV shots throughout the movie, which is great. And Destin also mentioned a specific perspective shot he did for the movie. There’s this new wrist perspective swing shot. And it’s a perspective mounted near Spider-Man’s wrist while holding the web line during a swing. Destin described wanting to capture what swinging looked like, what it felt like, and what it sounded like. The goal is immersion rather than simply observation.”

Screenings of the film will begin in earnest this coming week, with most seeing the film the week of release. Social media embargo on the film is said to lift next Monday night (July 27th) ahead of reviews going up at 9am US-ET on Tuesday July 28th – one day before advanced screenings commence in select countries on the Wednesday.

The film is reportedly said to have only a single post-credits scene, one that is rumoured to set things up for Spider-Man’s appearance in an “Avengers” film (namely ‘Secret Wars’, not ‘Doomsday).

Tracking figures are suggesting it could have a domestic opening weekend debut around the $230-250 million mark – very, very close to the previous entry’s $260 million kick-off.
