Sony and Marvel’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home” has now garnered a worldwide total of $813.9 million through Wednesday.

That pushes it past “No Time to Die” to become the top Hollywood release of the year globally, and the third biggest box-office hit worldwide after China’s two biggest local releases “The Battle of Lake Changjin” ($902 million) and “Hi, Mom” ($821 million).

It’s expected Spidey’s total will pass both those in the next day or two to become 2021’s global champ. Domestically it’s easily at number one with $356 million as of Wednesday, well ahead of the next nearest rival “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” with $224 million.

Overseas it stands at $457.4 million which has it in sixth place in terms of non-U.S. grossers in 2021. It has a way to go to beat those aforementioned two Chinese films, but should soon overtake “Detective Chinatown 3” ($686 million), “No Time to Die” ($613 million) and “F9: The Fast Saga” ($553 million).

The film also faces competition from others. On Wednesday the film pulled in a further $27.8 million, but nipping at its heels were the opening day hauls of “Sing 2” ($8 million) and “The Matrix Resurrections” ($6.4 million).

Both films scored mixed/good reviews from critics in the mid-60% range on Rotten Tomatoes. Audience CinemaScores, on the other hand, suggested that “Sing 2” (A+) clearly met expectations whilst “The Matrix Resurrections” (B-) did not as it tied with “The Matrix Revolutions” for the lowest CinemaScore of the franchise.

Not looking too good is “The King’s Man” which earned $2.3 million on Wednesday and snagged a B+ Cinemascore along with critics reviews of around 43% positive.
