After officially being confirmed at the recent PlayStation Showcase, more details about Insomniac Games’ upcoming direct sequel to the highly acclaimed PS4 title “Marvel’s Spider-Man” have emerged.

Speaking with This Week In Marvel Podcast (via Eurogamer), vice president and creative director Bill Rosemann of Marvel Games says the upcoming PS5-only title – a full-sized game as opposed to a smaller “Spider-Man: Miles Morales” style deal – will go darker than the previous titles and adds:

“If the first Spider-Man game was Star Wars, Spider-Man 2 is kind of our Empire [Strikes Back]. It gets a little darker.”

Venom and Kraven the Hunter are both set to pop up in the narrative this time, promising a less lighthearted time with this entry. Rosemann also discussed the reveal of Insomniac’s upcoming “Wolverine” game, saying:

“We will eventually reveal when Wolverine is aimed to launch. For more, go back and study those trailers, they are packed with details and Easter eggs.”

“Spider-Man 2” is scheduled for a 2023 release and will be available only on PlayStation 5.
