Horror producer extraordinaire Jason Blum says the upcoming “Spawn” comics-to-film adaptation will be different from the various other superhero films saturating the market.
Speaking at New York Comic Con last weekend, he revealed (via Bleeding Cool) that his plan is to do the “Blumhouse version of a superhero movie” and to be “edgy and original” as compared to other superhero films.
In the comics, Spawn is a former black-ops agent who makes a deal with a demon after being betrayed and killed.
The demon allows him to return to Earth, but when he returns, five years have passed, his wife has moved on and he roams Earth as a disfigured spawn of hell.
Earlier this month, Blum said a 2025 release date is being targeted for “Spawn” to come out, and he says he will “stand by that” date.
Scott Silver, Malcolm Spellman, and Matthew Mixon all took shots at the script in recent times, whilst at last report Jamie Foxx remains attached to star as Spawn.
“Spawn” was previously adapted to the screen as both an acclaimed animated HBO series, and a not-so-acclaimed 1997 New Line film.
