Comedy Central has announced a one-night, hourlong “South Park” pandemic special that will tackle the numerous issues of this year.
While the series has done multi-part episodes before, it has never done an episode running longer than a half-hour in its 23 years – aside from the 1999 feature “South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut”.
A synopsis reads: “Randy comes to terms with his role in the COVID-19 outbreak as the on-going pandemic presents continued challenges to the citizens of South Park. The kids happily head back to school but nothing resembles the normal that they once knew; not their teachers, not their homeroom, not even Eric Cartman.”
The one-off special will air September 30th at 8pm. No word as yet when a new season of the series will air, though the show was renewed through 2022 and the entire library recently moved from Hulu to HBO Max in a deal reportedly worth $500 million.
