Soul Wants To Join “Starsky & Hutch” Reboot

ABC

David Soul, who starred as Detective Kenneth ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson on the iconic 1970s cop series “Starsky & Hutch,” has revealed he wants to be part of the upcoming FOX series reboot.

First revealed last week, the plan is to develop a modern ‘reimagining’ of the show which will gender-swap the lead roles and follows two female detectives – Sasha Starsky and Nicole Hutchinson.

In the series, the new Starsky and Hutch solve crimes in the offbeat town of Desert City while staying true to their friendship and somehow also trying to unravel the mystery behind who sent both their fathers to prison fifteen years ago for a crime they didn’t commit.

Armed with their cherry-red Ford Gran Torino with a white stripe, Soul and Paul Michael Glaser took on the title roles in the William Blinn-created original series which ran from 1975-79 on ABC. On Tuesday, Soul tweeted:

“Every article mentions the ‘original’ actors by name. So why not just reboot Paul and me – as a couple of old farts solving piddlya– crimes at the assisted living facility where we would now live? Who can do Starsky and Hutch better than him and me?.”

Soul and Glaser are both 79 years old these days and both haven’t been linked to the new project as yet. Glaser said a few years ago a reboot could work if it didn’t try to recreate the original 1970s setting – rather it’s all about finding the right cast and modernising the premise.

The ABC series was previously adapted into a 1970s-set feature in 2004 starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.
