Sorkin Set For “The Social Network Part II”

Sony Pictures

“The West Wing” creator Aaron Sorkin has been set to write and direct “The Social Network Part II” for Sony Pictures, a sequel to the highly acclaimed 2010 film which he wrote and David Fincher directed.

A sequel has long been teased but never really gained much serious traction until now with Sorkin having reportedly found the angle into the story according to Deadline.

Their sources claim that while it is being dubbed ‘Part Two’, it’s not “not a straight sequel but rather a follow-up to the original movie” which look at the origins of the massive social media platform.

Specifically it will look into the story behind the Wall Street Journal‘s “The Facebook Files” – Jeff Horowitz’s explosive series of articles in 2021 which exposed the company as being aware of the platform’s harmful effects on larger society, yet persisted in putting the priority on profit.

The trade says Sorkin will focus not just on events like the 2020 election but also Facebook’s effect on “teens, preteens, violence and countries outside the U.S.”.

The original film was based on Ben Mezrich’s “The Accidental Millionaires” and became a major hit with both audiences and critics, snagging $226 million at the global box office and winning three Oscars – along with boosting the careers of its stars Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake and Armie Hammer.

Todd Black, Peter Rice, Sorkin and Stuart Besser are producing the new film with casting expected to begin soon.
