Outside of the “Spider-Man” franchise, Sony’s handling of the Marvel films has been… spotty.

Both “Venom” films did strong box office business and while people like Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams in their roles, the films themselves aren’t so well regarded. Then there’s “Morbius” earlier this year which was a straight flop.

The studio is going to keep trying though with the next effort being the “Kraven the Hunter” film which gives the iconic Spider-Man baddie his own movie.

The film’s star Aaron Taylor-Johnson recently appeared at the CineEurope conference to tubthump the movie (and his role in “Bullet Train” as well), where some comments he gave to the crowd have raised eyebrows. Taylor-Johnson reportedly described the character as:

“One of Marvel’s most iconic, notorious anti-heroes – Spider Man’s number one rival. [He’s] not an alien, or a wizard. He’s just a hunter, a human with conviction. An animal lover and a protector of the natural world. He’s a very, very cool character.”

In the comics, Kraven is a big game hunter who wears animal skins as clothing and seeks to kill Spider-Man – making his description here as a conservationist rather at odds with his comic counterpart.

Taylor-Johnson also confirmed this will be a rare Marvel film that “is shot entirely on location.” The film is being directed by J.C. Chandor and is targeting a January 13th release.
