Sony kicked off this year’s CinemaCon event with its panel highlighting its upcoming features. The studio is set to release twenty-three films in 2023, and president Josh Greenstein made it clear in his opening remarks to exhibitors they were the studio that didn’t give up on theatrical releases and didn’t go day and date.
Several minutes from Craig Gillespie’s “Dumb Money,” about the GameStop stock short, were shown. Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Sebastian Stan, Pete Davidson, Shailene Woodley and more star in the film, which opens October 20th.
Greenstein says he believes “Insidious: The Red Door,” the upcoming fifth entry in the horror franchise, could be the most successful of them all. As previously reported on, they also showed off footage from the R-rated “Kraven” movie.
“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse” is set one year after “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and fourteen minutes of footage was shown off mostly showing setup of the plot as Gwen and Miles talk about their experiences being a hero, along with tracking down a villain known as The Spot. Some of Metro Boomin’s new music for the film was also on show.
The R-rated Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney rom-com that’s been filming in Australia in recent months and wrapped today has finally scored a title – “Anyone But You”. Clips shown are said to have been both raunchy and roasting of each other along with spoofing that “Titanic” moment.
The first trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s “Gran Turismo” movie was shown, that film follows the winner of a competition against other Turismo gamers and getting to race against real racers.
Also revealed was that “Bad Boys 4” is in its fourth week of shooting, a video greeting from the “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” sequel crew, and footage from both “The Equalizer 3” and “No Hard Feelings”.
Finally, the panel ended with the first footage from Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” which Sony’s Tom Rothman says will have a robust theatrical window this Fall and full-throttle marketing campaign from Sony before moving to the Apple TV+ service.
That footage is said to have muted colors and shows Joaquin Phoenix’s Napoleon leading an ambush against massive calvary forces in an ice field – with Napoleon having the advantage of the high ground. Then comes a Ridley Scott-style large-scale battle, complete with cannons and smashed ice.
