Sony Sets ‘Pay 2’ Deal With Disney

Sony Sets Pay 2 Deal With Disney
Sony Pictures & Disney

The other week came the news that Netflix and Sony had inked a massive pact for Sony’s features to go to the streaming service for their ‘Pay 1’ windows which is around nine months after a film hits theaters.

Today, Sony has reached a major deal with Disney over their ‘Pay 2’ windows (those after the ‘Pay 1’ window expires) that will see their upcoming theatrical slate from 2022-2026, and much of the Sony library, headed to Disney’s streaming and TV platforms including Disney+, Hulu, ABC, Disney Channels, Freeform, FX and National Geographic.

Titles under the deal include films from Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters (SPUMC) such as “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” as well as the “Hotel Transylvania” and “Jumanji” franchises along with upcoming titles like “Morbius,” “Uncharted” and the ‘Spider-Verse’ sequel.

It also includes library titles granting Hulu access to a significant number of older Sony titles from as early as this June, as well as potentially paving the way for “Spider-Man” films to reside on the Disney+ service. Sony previously had licensed its films only to Disney-owned FX in the post-Pay 1 TV window.
