Sony Exec Teases FromSoftware Screen Works

Sony’s purchase of a minority stake in famed “Dark Souls” and “Elden Ring” developer FromSoftware could lead to more than just new game projects together.

PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst tells Reuters that one possibility is that FromSoftware properties could potentially become projects for PlayStation Productions – the studio focused on adapting PlayStation franchises for film and television. Hulst says to the outlet:

“You should think of collaborations on the game development side first and foremost, but it’s also not unthinkable with our PlayStation Productions efforts that we explore opportunities.”

PlayStation Productions has ramped up fast following the release of their first effort with the “Uncharted” earlier this year. The company already has completed filming on “The Last of Us” series for HBO and a “Twisted Metal” series for Peacock.

Films based on “Gran Turismo,” “Days Gone,” “Ghost of Tsushima” and “Gravity Rush” are in development, as are Netflix series “Horizon” and Amazon series “God of War”.

PlayStation Productions has yet to use an IP that isn’t its own, but FromSoftware has a long relationship with Sony and developed exclusive titles like “Demon’s Souls” and “Bloodborne” for them. Could this relationship lead to a film or series based on one of their famed IPs? Time will tell.
