Sony Pictures have announced that they have staked a claim on the release date of October 8th 2021 which they will use to open a currently untitled Marvel film.
At present Sony has three definite Marvel films on the way. “Morbius” is hitting July this year and has already released a trailer so it’s unlikely to move. “Venom 2” is halfway through production and is likely to take the Untitled Sony/Marvel film slotted for October 2nd this year – though it will be rushing to meet that date.
Then there’s the third Tom Holland-led “Spider-Man” film which is targeting a July 21st 2021 opening. That leaves the most likely candidates being one of the other Marvel movies rumored to be in the works at Sony including the “Kraven the Hunter” film, a “Black Cat” and/or “Silver Sable” project, “Nightwatch” or something else.
Whatever it is, 2021 is shaping up to be an insanely busy year for comic book movies (Marvel and DC) with “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” in February, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” in May, “The Batman” in June, “Spider-Man 3” in July, “The Suicide Squad” in August, this Sony/Marvel project in October, and “Thor: Love and Thunder” in November – not to mention the premieres of the “Loki,” “Hawkeye,” “Ms. Marvel,” “Moon Knight” and “Green Lantern” TV series.
