Netflix has released the first clip from Sony Pictures Animation’s animated musical feature “Vivo” which stars Lin-Manuel Miranda as the voice of the titular kinkajou (a rainforest ‘honey bear’).
The story follows a one-of-kind kinkajou who must find his way from Havana to Miami in order to deliver a song on behalf of his beloved owner and mentor Andres (Juan de Marcos Gonzalez) with the help of his grand-niece Gabi (Ynairaly Simo).
The film is an exhilarating story about gathering your courage, finding family in unlikely friends, and the belief that music can open you to new worlds. Gloria Estefan, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Brian Tyree Henry, Nicole Byer, Leslie David Baker, Katie Lowes, Olivia Trujillo, and Lidya Jewett also lend their voices.
The clip features Vivo and Gabi as they sing new song “Keep the Beat” whilst traversing the Florida Everglades. Miranda penned original songs for the film which has set a Friday, August 6th premiere date on the service.
The project is directed by Kirk DeMicco (“The Croods”) and Brandon Jeffords (“Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2”) from a screenplay written by Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegría Hudes.
