Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh will executive produce a feature-length adaptation of Eddie Alcazar’s short film “The Vandal”.
A blend of stop-motion animation and live-action, the story is set in a world akin to mid-20th century America. “Predator” and “No Sudden Move” star Bill Duke plays Harold, a man whose tormented search for peace from traumatic loss results in an unexpectedly destructive awakening after he undergoes a lobotomy.
When the procedure “turns his mind inside out” and his great love is suddenly gone, Harold’s search intensifies. Baadja-Lyne Odums, Abbey Lee and Maurice Compte also star in the project which uses a visual technique dubbed ‘meta-scope’ wherein the closer you get to a subject, the more real it becomes.
Presented by filmmaker/producer Darren Aronofsky at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, the short is tipped as an early contender for the best animated short Oscar.
