The “Bad Boys” are officially set to return with actors Will Smith and Martin Lawrence announcing in a video that they intend to reunite for a fourth film in the action franchise.
Sony Pictures has subsequently confirmed that the untitled sequel is in early pre-production with “Bad Boys for Life” directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah returning to direct from a script by Chris Bremner.
El Arbi and Fallah of course worked on the “Batgirl” project over at HBO Max before it was scrapped by Warner Bros. Discovery whilst they were in post-production.
The third entry in the “Bad Boys” series arrived in early 2020 and was one of the last major pre-pandemic era blockbusters. It pulled in $426.5 million at the worldwide box office from a $90 million budget, the best of the franchise to date and the fourth highest grossing film of 2020, along with scoring mostly good reviews.
“Bad Boys for Life” arrived on the 25th anniversary of Michael Bay’s original film, and Bay also directed the first sequel in 2003. The new film is looking to have the shortest gap between entries in the series thus far.
The yet-to-be-titled new film will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Smith, Doug Belgrad, and Chad Oman. Lawrence, James Lassiter, Mike Stenson, Barry Waldman and Jon Mone are executive producers.
