Will Smith will star in the Antoine Fuqua-directed slavery thriller “Emancipation” at Westbrook Studios and McFarland Entertainment.
William N. Collage penned the script, based on the true story of a runaway slave named Peter who is forced to outwit cold-blooded hunters and the punishing Louisiana swamp on a tortuous journey to the Union Army and his only chance at freedom.
Smith, James Lassiter, Jon Mone, Joey McFarland and Todd Black will produce and shooting is expected to start early in 2021. Smith was filming “King Richard” and Fuqua” was in post-production on “Infinite” when both productions were halted due to the pandemic.
