“Slow Horses” Scores Two-Season Renewal

Slow Horses Scores Two Season Renewal
Apple TV+

Apple TV+ has renewed its Gary Oldman, Jack Lowden and Kristin Scott Thomas-led darkly comic espionage drama series “Slow Horses” for two more seasons.

That takes it beyond the first which premiered back in April, and the already completed production second season due out later this year.

The first two seasons were shot and produced back-to-back as one production, so the double season renewal makes sense as it will likely be done the same way (though that’s not confirmed).

The show is based on the “Slough House” spy novel series by Mick Herron which currently consists of eight novels and three novellas. Each six-episode season adapts one of the novels with the third and fourth seasons to be based on the corresponding books “Real Tigers” and “Spook Street”.

Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but irascible leader of Slough House, a dumping ground department of MI5 for those who’ve made career-ending mistakes. Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Freddie Fox, Chris Reilly, Samuel West, Sophie Okonedo, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Kadiff Kirwan, and Jonathan Pryce co-star.

The third season will see one of the team kidnapped by a former soldier bent on revenge and the agents must breach the defenses of Regent’s Park to steal valuable intel. The fourth season deals with a bomb going off in a crowded shopping center whilst River’s grandfather (Pryce) starts to succumb to dementia and becomes paranoid.

Saul Metzstein is set to direct the third season.
