“Slow Horses” Producers To Reboot “Lovejoy”

BBC

Famed BBC comedy/drama/mystery series “Lovejoy,” an iconic role for “Deadwood” and “John Wick” actor Ian McShane in the late 1980s/early 1990s, will return to television.

“Slow Horses,” “Apple Cider Vinegar” and “Heartstopper” producers See-Saw Films are behind the new adaptation following the acquisition of rights to John Grant’s original detective novels.

McShane starred in the original as a roguish antiques dealer in East Anglia with an almost preternatural knack for recognising exceptional items, along with genuine antiques from fakes or forgeries.

He’s a bit of a scoundrel and scam artist, but with a heart of gold, and became a lovable anti-hero character.

Chris Jury, Dudley Sutton, Phyllis Logan and Malcolm Tierney also starred in the series, which ran for six seasons and was noted for its lead character regularly breaking the fourth wall, as well as its pacing and style

This project is being dubbed a contemporary reimagining of the series. Lisa Gilchrist, Helen Gregory, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman and Simon Gillis will executive produce.
