“The Sleepover” writer Sarah Rothschild is set to pen the latest draft of a remake of “Splash” at Disney Pictures, Imagine Entertainment and Free Association. Marja-Lewis Ryan wrote an earlier draft.
First revealed back in 2016, actress Jillian Bell (“Inherent Vice,” “22 Jump Street”) is attached to the project which reimagines Ron Howard’s 1984 hit comedy that was a massive hit for Disney at the time and helped kickstart both Touchstone Pictures and Imagine Entertainment.
Tom Hanks and Darryl Hannah starred in the original as a man and mermaid who fall in love when they are reunited years after she saved his life as a boy.
Rothschild recently wrote “24/7,” a modern-day take on “Working Girl” which has Eva Longoria and Kerry Washington attached to star.
