Two cult favorite horror films are set to get reboots shortly with some high-profile casts.

Kenan Thompson and Johnny Ryan Jr.’s production company AFA has acquired remake rights to Robert Hiltzik’s infamous 1983 slasher “Sleepaway Camp”.

Specifics as to the new take on the material are under wraps for now and development on the script is currently underway. Hiltzik is expected to direct from his own script.

The original film follows a group of teens at a summer camp who are murdered one by one. What set it above so many other slashers of the time was its out there final twist involving the killer’s reveal.

Also today comes news that 2011 low-budget found footage horror film “Grave Encounters” is getting a reboot. Shooting begins next year.

Original writer/directors Colin Minihan (“Coyotes”) and Stuart Ortiz are set to develop the new film which will star Justin Long who also produces alongside Kate Bosworth.

The original film followed the doomed crew of a ghost hunting reality show when they stumble across real terror in an abandoned mental hospital.

The new take plans to “modernize the concept into a cinematic experience, heightening the dread, claustrophobia, and psychological terror that made the original a fan favorite.”
