Sky has announced plans for the five-part series “Amadeus,” which will deal with beloved composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s time in Vienna in the late 1700s.
The project is NOT a remake of Milos Forman’s 1984 feature that swept the Oscars with eight wins, including Best Picture, and has been preserved in the United States National Film Registry. That film was based on the famed 1979 play by Peter Shaffer and put more of the focus on rival Antonio Salleri.
“Giri/Haji” and “The Lazarus Project” writer Joe Barton is teaming with Two Cities Television (“Patrick Melrose”) for this more presumably straightforward drama which has not yet been greenlit but is in advanced stages of development.
Casting is currently taking place, with several understood to be in the frame to play the lead role of Mozart. Barton, Michael Jackson and Stephen Wright will executive produce the series which is likely to air on Sky Max.
