Disney has announced that “Playdate with Destiny,” a new short film based on “The Simpsons” TV series, will be attached to copies of Pixar’s “Onward”.
This marks the first time the featured prelude before a Pixar film will come from outside of the studio’s internal team. The short itself will focus on Maggie Simpson and appears to be set around the Mediterranean.
This marks the first “Simpsons” on the big screen since “Maggie Simpson: The Longest Daycare” opened ahead of “Ice Age: Continental Drift” in 2012 and before that the full “The Simpsons Movie” in 2007.
“Onward” has been scoring strong reviews and is also set to introduce Pixar’s first lesbian character – a cyclops cop named Officer Specter (voiced by Lena Waithe).
