Sigourney Weaver Reacts To “Alien: Earth”

FX

Critics have positively swooned for FX’s “Alien: Earth,” but general audience scores have been slightly more mixed if still positive overall.

One thing is for sure though, the series boasts feature some film-quality visuals and visual effects, and it certainly heavily expands the universe of the franchise with its exploration of 2120 Earth society along with its inclusion of some all new alien creatures.

One person we won’t see is Ellen Ripley, the lead character from the original films played by Sigourney Weaver. Though events of the show take place in close proximity to the original “Alien,” Ripley isn’t a character who appears in the narrative.

In an interview with People at the Toronto International Film Festival this week to promote her new film “Dust Bunny,” Weaver revealed that she is “really enjoying” the TV series:

“What I admire about it is the scope is so much more profound than just an Alien movie. It’s about our world and what’s dominating the world in 100 years, and to me it’s right on.

…All these things are so remarkable and they’re just building and building and building. And the monsters that he’s also bringing in are just terrifying. It’s like, we don’t have enough problems with the alien, we need 50 more. I can’t believe I’m watching TV.”

The series is coming off its fifth episode which has been arguably the most acclaimed yet with a real standout performance from British actor Babou Ceesay as Morrow.

“Alien: Earth” airs on FX and FX on Hulu weekly on Tuesdays.
