Filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan is reportedly set to direct a scripted, live-action TV show based on Mattel’s famous Magic 8 Ball toy.

The “Trap” and “Old” director made the announcement on Instagram, posting a script that reads “Magic 8 Ball Season 1 ‘Pilot'” on the cover page.

Brad Falchuk, co-creator of “Glee” and “American Horror Story,” will co-create the series with Shyamalan while Mattel Studios is producing.

In the caption, Shyamalan says “Been working on this for a couple years… Who’s in?” before adding the wording #IsItCertain – a reference to a popular response from the toy.

The device contains a white 20-sided die floating in blue-tinted alcohol. Each of the die’s 20 faces has a brief message – ten affirmative, five negative, and five non-committal – read through a window on the ball’s bottom. The replies are to be looked at after asking the ball a yes-no question.

No talent or streamer/network is currently attached to the series. Previously, Jeff Wadlow was attached to direct a film adaptation of the toy for Blumhouse in 2019. Paramount also had a go at a film adaptation in development back in 2010. Neither of those projects went very far.
