Showtime Sets “Weeds,” “Jackie” Revivals

Showtime is set to bring back two of its signature comedy series – “Nurse Jackie” and “Weeds”.

Former Showtime chief Robert Greenblatt and Lionsgate Television are behind the follow-ups which are in the early stages of development.

At present the original leads of both shows, Edie Falco and Mary-Louise Parker, are attached to star and executive produce their respective series. Both projects are still coming together, with deals being negotiated.

Both projects are reportedly on fast-track development and could launch as soon as early 2024 – depending on the length of the writer’s strike.

Christian Torpe, creator of the popular Danish series “Rita,” will pen and executive produce the “Weeds” revival, which will see Parker’s Nancy character in Copenhagen. The original saw a recently widowed mother of two starting a drug business to support her family – generating a whole new set of problems in the process.

Abe Sylvia and Liz Flahive, who were writers-producers on the original “Nurse Jackie” series, will be writing and executive producing the sequel series. Its concept is still being finalized but will once again follow emergency room nurse and addict Jackie Peyton who bends the rules to keep up with the demands of her job and messy personal life.

It joins other offshoots of the network’s signature series in development, including “The L Word,” “Billions” and “Dexter”.
